We’ve caught back up and our wonderful client, Louise, has produced her next monthly blog telling us about her experiences at Headway Plymouth in January 2026.
January 6th 2026 – Mindful Art Club CIC
It was good to return to Headway, refreshed after the festive period. I don’t know about you, but I didn’t do much at all on Christmas day or New Year’s Day. I did watch Pride and Prejudice (the 1995 mini-series and my favourite version) on January 1st, so that took up most of my day, and of course I had to finish off some biscuits!
Anyway, back to the present day… Kerry and Emma were back at Headway for a bit of mindfulness, chat and, of course, some creative art. It was interesting to hear how we’d each spent the festive period, and we had some good conversations as a result. I always feel quite uplifted in these sessions and look forward to them.
I also had to finish off my December blog, as there wasn’t enough time to do so on 23rd December, after the Christmas lunch. And, of course, the obligatory game of Scrabble!
January 9th, 2026 – Exercise with Megan from Plymouth Neurophysio
Well, it was a bit of a wakeup call for me this morning, but I was very glad to get moving again. I’m particularly good at lifting my legs up high (individually) when sitting down. I must try practising lifting them up together when I’m at home – I might forget to do it though! Megan was on good form as usual, and I think that we all feel much looser now.

14th January 2026 – Chill Time with the Team
I should have been at Headway yesterday, but I had a couple of appointments to go to and it was also good to meet up with a friend who I’d not seen for a while to exchange belated Christmas presents etc.
Anyway, I got into Headway a bit later than usual today and started my session by playing several games of Scrabble. I would have liked to start typing a letter to a new pen pal from Sweden but, due to issues with Word, it wasn’t to be. So, I hope to be able to start that.
16th January 2026 – Cooking with the Team
A lot of the Headway client’s partook in making their own lunch, for a change. We had the option of including crisps, tomatoes, ham and cheese – I loaded up on the ham, tomatoes and spicy crisps and my toastie was delicious! Many years ago, I went through a phase of eating toasties without cheese, as I don’t think cheese is necessary in a toastie, and it gives me an excuse to eat more chocolate instead! I wouldn’t make toasties at home though, as the bread would just go off due to my rarely eating bread at all, and, if I did eat bread, it would either be seeded or whole grain.
20th January 2026 – Chill Day
As I wasn’t able to add to the blog today or type to my Swedish pen pal, I ended up having numerous games of Uno with some of the other clients, as well as a few games of Scrabble. Both games could get quite competitive, but thankfully, we don’t score with the Scrabble games but Uno’s a different matter of course. You’ve got to get the heart racing a bit every now and then though, and Uno certainly does that.
Friday 23rd January – 2026 Exercising with Megan
Luckily, both my dad and I arrived at Headway just in time to get our boogies on at the gentle fitness class. Megan was in fine fettle as usual and got us all moving and grooving to the music’s beat. There were about five or six different exercises which were particularly beneficial for me to do, but I can’t remember all of them now, so I’ll just have to wing it when doing them at home. I have osteoarthritis in some of my joints, due to the brain – damage I had as a child, so I do try to move various parts of my body in the evening, as well as during the day. I used to do my own form of yoga, as well as attending classes up until the last year or so.
Anyway, as an end to my session at Headway today, I had to finish off with a good ol’ game of Scrabble with Jonathon.
Tuesday 27th January 2026 – Quiz Time
It was an even quieter day at Headway than usual. I think this was partly due to the awfully windy weather. Thankfully a few more clients arrived to make it worthwhile to do the quiz today. The quiz was put together by Summer, who is on a placement from City College Plymouth Higher Education like Archie was. I was glad that I came second in the quiz, though I shouldn’t have doubted a few of the answers that I crossed out!
Friday 30th January – Story Telling with Natasha
I arrived at the Centre and the storytelling was in full swing, with many clients gathered around, with Natasha at the helm, as usual.
