Letters from Louise – November 2025

Our wonderful client, Louise, has taken time out to produce her next monthly blog telling us about her experience at Headway Plymouth in November.

Tuesday 4th November – Adaptive Fitness with Megan

Megan was back in to keep us in shape from head to toe.  I was a tad late to proceedings, but I joined in and felt better for it afterwards.  As you know, I do try to practice some gentle exercises at home.

Wednesday 5th November – Food is Fun and Spotlight Interview

I came in today, but I wasn’t involved with the cooking or interviews, as I arrived too late.  However, I saw other clients being interviewed and the sausage rolls and cupcakes were delicious!

I also had an extremely close encounter with a rat outside and had to go to get a tetanus jab, as I’d not had one since 1995!  I’m also on antibiotics as a precaution.  That’ll teach me to try to feed an injured rat!!

Thursday 6th November – Women’s Group

Another relaxing session with Jo at the Centre to discuss anything we want to, really.  It’s good to just have women present at times, and to be able to focus on what’s going on and affecting us at home, the Centre etc. We also looked at meeting up for lunch, the Christmas market in Plymouth and having a wander around there.

I went to the gym after the chill time at Headway, and I felt less tired than I usually do before I go to the gym, so I’ll put that down to the company I had beforehand – socialising in a smaller group was just what I needed!

Friday 7th November – Natasha’s Storytelling Time

I was pleasantly surprised to see so many clients taking part in the session, today.  Daniel tried his hand at drawing the various stages of the story that was concocted, and everyone seemed keen to contribute to the story. Today’s story involved Pac Man, a Labyrinth Master, Mars bars and there was lots of laughter involved.  My input to the group session was the thought that Mario Land, which Pac man tries to reach via the maze, is like an amalgamation of the clients’ life journeys to achieve new goals, and eventually get to Headway, and be in the company of people with similar outcomes and goals, and to feel more contented.

Tuesday 11th November – Mindful Art Club

Today’s session was based on various famous artists artworks.  Clients could either copy, trace or just do their own designs.  There are some talented artists in some of the clients, and it was fascinating to see what they produced!

Friday 14th November – Adaptive Fitness with Megan

It was time to loosen up again and get our bodies moving!  As you already know, this is one of my favourite activities.  I fell over in my hallway the other day (too cluttered) and damaged my left wrist for the umpteenth time, but the exercises that the physio at the hospital got me to do were similar to the ones that Megan sometimes gets us to do, in time to music.

Tuesday 18th November – Bingo Time!

Today’s host was Amy and, despite not winning anything yet again, I had a good time and found that playing Bingo helped considerably with my concentration, and I felt more able to multi-task at the same time.  I was also typing a letter to my pen pal, so I felt more fulfilled that I’d achieved a couple of things.

Friday 21st November – Stitch and Splodge

Louise encouraged the clients to make decorations for the Centre, using her huge variety of wooden stamps.  I passed on this activity, as I made a few mistakes with my designs at the beginning.  However, sometimes it’s best to observe the action, in addition to continuing with my blog.

Craig eventually managed to hang the decorations up, so the Centre looks far more festive now.

Tuesday 25th November – Fitness with Megan

It was a smaller group of clients today, but that made things easier for people to arrange themselves around Megan.

I didn’t feel like updating the blog or continuing with typing to my pen pal, but I did play good ol’ Scrabble with another client, as well as a volunteer.

Friday 28th November – Leaf Sun Catchers with Laura

I quite enjoyed this creative session with Laura.  She is a National Trust Ranger for the Green Communities Project, and Devonport is the area that she works with.  We made various Christmas decorations, called Sun Catchers for some unknown reason. I wouldn’t call them that at this time of year, myself.
